Institutions & Inequality Project
We investigate how public institutions sustain social inequalities through the decisions and practices that organize access to power, resources, and recognition. We employ a variety of research methods to draw insights from innovative data sources, particularly in the context of the criminal legal system. Our research aims to advance more equitable public institutions, informing policies shaping security and justice during a time of opportunity and interest in transforming the criminal legal system’s future.
In addition to empirical research, we are committed to educational initiatives:
• Online Summer Incubator for graduate students (more information & application here)
• Shared Spotlight Series featuring Duke researchers and Durham practitioners (example)
• Policy Briefs based on our research and authored by undergraduate affiliates
